Spending time in your hot tub or spa can be very beneficial to your overall health. There are many activities, other than just relaxing, that can really boost your overall experience. By including a variety of hot tub accessories or even some of your favorite belongings, you can really boost the way you spend time in the jet-driven water. Indulging in your backyard hot tub and maximizing the peace and serenity of your backyard is as easy as including the following spa activities.
LEISURE
Use your hot tub time to relax your mind by leisurely enjoying a soothing activity, such as reading a good book. Reading, in your outdoor oasis, is a great way to de-stress and tune out stress from the day. You can also use this time to immerse yourself in good music.
Adding music to your soak will help to set the mood and the ambiance of soothing music is a great way to rejuvenate your mind too. Before you get in, queue up some of your favorite and most-relaxing music, connect your Bluetooth to the hot tub, and you are in business!
MEDITATION
If you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed and could benefit from a break, why not use your hot tub time to settle your mind with meditation and yoga? In fact, hot tub yoga is a great way to incorporate gentle, low-impact exercises. This can be especially helpful if you have certain injuries that prevent you from working out or suffer from sore muscles. Always remember to stay hydrated and to stop if you feel even slightly dizzy.
HOT TUB EXERCISES
There are various exercises you can do in the comfort of your outdoor hot tub. Your backyard spa oasis offers the perfect setting to help you strengthen and tone your body.
- Toe pushes are a great way to strengthen your calf muscles. Simply hold your toes against the hot tub wall, pushing with a comfortable amount of force, and locking that position for three seconds. Repeat this a few times. You can eventually build up resistance, to be able to hold the position for up to ten seconds.
- Arm crossovers work the forearms and core. In an upright, sitting position, simply hold both arms out straight in front of you, palms down. Swiftly cross your arms over one another, alternating which one goes on top. Three sets of arm crossovers, for about 30 seconds, are long enough to do an effective arm work out.
- You can use side leg extensions to strengthen your abdominals and leg muscles. You can do these by sitting back in your hot tub seat, while holding onto any available rails for support. Stretch your legs forward and come them as straight as you can. Begin to spread them slowly, and steadily, as far away from your body as possible. Bring them back together again. Do three sets of these exercises for about 30 seconds. Be sure to rest between each set.
- If you would like to focus on strengthening your abdominals, leg lifts can help with that. Sit back in your hot tub seat and hold your abdominal muscles tight. Stretch your legs out in front of you, keeping them straight, and then lift them up in a steady motion until your toes are poking out of the water. Hold this position for a few seconds, before slowly bringing your feet back down in front of you. Do ten leg lifts and then take a break. Complete a set of ten lifts, three times.
