3 SIGNS YOU NEED A NEW HOT TUB COVER

Hot tubs are a great place to unwind after a long and stressful day. To ensure you enjoy every single minute of your spa experience, appropriate protection is key. That is where a high-quality cover comes in. Covers such as those produced by Sundance® Spas are made with durable marine-grade material and offer superior protection for your hot tub.

However, even covers crafted from high-quality materials can become damaged. Time, improper use and the weather can all take a toll. Discover if you need a new spa cover with these helpful tips from Le Dipping Parlor Spas!

1. IT’S CRACKED OR RIPPED

The sun, heavy rain, ice, and snow can eventually degrade your hot tub cover, damaging the materials and cracking the foundation. When your cover is cracked, the inner foam core becomes exposed to the elements, soaking in moisture from rain and snow.

This is bad news for both you and your spa. The crack, if severe enough, leaves your spa unprotected and makes the maintenance of your tub’s water chemistry more difficult.

A cracked or ripped cover will also become waterlogged, making it heavy and difficult to lift.

2. IT’S SAGGING

If your spa cover is sagging, it is definitely time to look for a new one.

Most often caused by heavy snow or large puddles of rain sitting on top of your spa for lengthy periods, dips and sags are indications that either part of the cover’s core has broken, or the reinforcement is collapsing. Once that happens, the seal around the edge of the hot tub will be compromised, allowing steam and heat to escape.

3. ODOR AND MOLD ARE GROWING

The only scent your cover should emit is that of hot tub chemicals. If you catch a whiff of anything else, your spa cover needs to go. A smelly cover is a good indication that mold, mildew or other harmful bacteria have taken over. While mildew on the outside of a cover can be cleaned, once bacteria has taken root in the foam core, not even a hot tub service provider will be able to save it. Covers with mold growing in the core are a breathing hazard and should be thrown out.

MAINTENANCE

Once you have replaced your old or damaged cover with a new one, Sundance® Spas recommends cleaning it regularly to protect it from everyday wear and tear. Avoid detergent-based soaps, alcohol products, dishwashing soaps and any product containing bleach. Use either warm water or products recommended for hot tub cover cleaning.

To protect your cover from the sun’s rays, consider applying UV protection every three or four months or purchasing and using a cover cap. During the winter months, remove excess weight by routinely brushing all the snow off of your cover with a broom or brush.
